Apam Police Command has denied reports that three persons were shot at Gomoa Sinbrofo, a farming community near Apam in the Central Region during the installation ceremony of the Queen mother and Nifahene of the town on Saturday. There were reports that the ceremony turned violent leading to the shooting of three natives who were rushed to the Apam hospital for treatment.
About 200 residents of the town which has a population of over 1000 reportedly fled their homes to escape the violence and sought refuge at Gomoa Mpoman.
Some of the residents accused the chief of the town, Nana Otoboa Kese of recruiting armed Land guards from Kokrobite to support him to install the Nifahene and a new Queen mother because he didn’t have the backing of the residents.
According to the residents, the armed men stormed the town and started shooting indiscriminately resulting in some three residents being hit by bullets.
But speaking to Kasapa News Pomaa Kyekyeku, the Apam Police Commander, DSP Moses Osakonor stated that no such incident occurred at Gomoa Sinbrofo, saying it was rather a false alarm raised by some residents.
According to him, not a single individual has filed a complaint at the police station for being attacked hence there’s no case to investigate.
“We [Police] were on the grounds ourselves during the ceremony, we actually moved the police station to the ground that day but we didn’t witness any such incident. We were there from Friday to Monday. As I speak to you nobody has told us he or she has been to the hospital so there’s nothing like a case under investigation. I can say on authority that it was a false alarm raised by the residents.”
